DACC wishes a Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year!

Christmas Julefrokost 2022: The perfect Kick-off to the Holiday Season!

It was with much glæde, that we kicked off the month and the 2022 Holiday season with our annual DACC Julefrokost. After several years on hiatus due to COVID, we were able to finally come together again to celebrate and celebrate, we did!

This year we partnered with our Scandinavian neighbors and held the event at the Norwegian Club in San Francisco. The turn of the last century house, decorated in Christmas regalia was the perfect backdrop to a hyggelig affair. Guests enjoyed canapés paired with the most delicious and warming glögg, whose spicy warmth took the chill out of a rainy winter evening.  After starters, the evening continued with an absolutely delicious meal prepared by Chef Roberth Sundell, who presented Danish classics with a little twist. Wine and laughter flowed throughout the evening with the calls of “Skål!!!” punctuating the night.

As is tradition, DACC held our holiday fundraising raffle. Emceed by our President and Partnership Liaison, the ladies kept the merriment going while calling out the lucky winners. This year we also offered an online silent auction of one-of-a-kind pieces and experiences. Both offerings were well received and we will be excited to do them again. As always we are deeply grateful to our generous donors without which we would be unable to have such a wonderful assortment of prizes. Please see the full list of donors for more information on who was able to partner with us this year.

As the year comes to a close we wish all our members - existing as well as new members - and their loved ones a very Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing more of everyone in the coming year.

The "flettede julehjerte"!

"The braided Christmas Heart" is a Danish tradition, and possibly invented by H. C. Andersen. Though the facts about the origin of the heart are scare, the oldest surviving heart is woven by H. C: Andersen, and is currently on display in his home in Odense, Denmark. It was braided in the 1860's and back then it didn't have a handle and only two stripes.

It took approx. 40 years for the hearts to find their way to the homes and the Danish Christmas trees. This is largely contributed to the nourishment of Danish children, when trying to strengthen creative and fine motor skills, they were tasks to use glossy paper.

The results ended up at home on the families' Christmas trees.

Let the holidays begin !

When we think about Christmas, mental images like crackling fireplaces, glistering snow and 'Julemarkeder' with Glögg usually come to mind. Traditions of Christmas cookies, 'Risengrød', 'pakkeleg' and so much more, are all traditions that we tend to bring out with us into the world and share with new friends, colleagues and family. The holidays are a time of year where Danes gather, celebrate and enjoy hygge and candlelight, when the months becomes colder and darker.

Looking forward to the new year, we hope you all are ready for a new relaunch of DACC Northern California in 2023. You can look forward to events, social gatherings, Fireplace talks and so much more.

From all of the DACC board,
Merry Christmas and a Happy, Joyful New Year!
